Protection of a robot exposed to brine

A food-industry robot was being prepared for operation in an area where water with a high salt concentration appears naturally as part of the production process. This created an environment in which moisture and brine would be present on a daily basis, influencing the conditions around the equipment.

Process conditions

At the workstation, brine was present in the form of splashes, fine mist, and settling droplets generated during normal production steps. These accumulated on metal components, joints, and the places where moisture typically collects. Even with standard cleaning routines, saltwater often remains in areas that are harder to reach.

Challenges created by salt exposure

In environments like this, several effects can gradually shape the long-term condition of the robot:

  • Corrosion may form on exposed metal surfaces
  • Salt deposits can build up in narrow gaps and around seals
  • Surfaces may age more quickly due to continuous moisture
  • Brine can potentially reach internal assemblies
  • Small performance inconsistencies may appear over time

These effects develop slowly, which makes them easy to overlook in the early stages.

The solution

To give the robot a more controlled working environment from the start, we added a protective cover designed for applications where brine is present. The material handles frequent contact with saltwater, sheds moisture quickly, and helps limit how much brine settles on sensitive areas. The cover fits the robot’s geometry without restricting movement, creating a more stable operating envelope.

Benefits of using a robot cover

  • Helps reduce corrosion on metal surfaces
  • Limits saltwater contact with joints and housings
  • Reduces the likelihood of brine reaching internal components
  • Supports longer intervals between maintenance checks
  • Contributes to steadier long-term performance
  • Helps maintain a cleaner production environment

Summary

In processes where brine appears naturally, even small protective measures can help shape the conditions in which a robot operates. A tailored cover adds a buffer between the equipment and its surroundings, supporting a calmer, more predictable day-to-day operation.

If your robots work near moisture or brine splashes, a custom cover can be a straightforward way to support stable performance and protect the equipment.
